Our Fresh White and Blue Summer Style, Look 3 is more than a celebration of patriotic style, it’s a celebration of summer. To me, nothing celebrates summer more than ice cream, though I eat it all year. Besides being my favorite sweet treat, heck, my favorite food, ice cream connects many of my memories of childhood. When I eat ice cream, it’s like I’m sitting on the back porch on a hot summer day, watching crystals form in a freshly made batch of peach yogurt ice cream as it churns loudly in our old, electric ice cream maker; or it’s like hearing the jingle of the ice cream truck as it trundles up the street, drawing all the neighborhood kids outside with dollar bills clutched in frantically waving hands.
Ice cream is not only a social food, it is also a solo food. It’s associated with celebrations, parties, and other social gatherings, but also with sobbing alone after a bad breakup, or a really bad day. Ice cream is the ultimate choose your own adventure. These days, ice cream is as much about the add-ins: pretty much anything from fruity pebbles to the kitchen sink, as it is about what can be left out: the cream (dairy-free, anyone?). Ice cream is yours to do with what you will, just like summer, and just like life. And that, my friends, is the profundity that can be found churned within the frozen depths of a tub of ice cream.
Anyway, not to be forgotten in this celebration of America’s most favorite of summer treats is the fashion of the day. If the past year has been about anything in the fashion world, it has been about frills, ruffles, and pleats. This particular outfit takes the ideal to heart with pleated frill details on the pants working in concert with the pleated shirt to create a beautiful symmetry. The bow detail on the shoes add a hint of cute that make this look perfect for grabbing a scoop with a date, or the girlfriends. Summer fresh? Check. Summer cool? Check and check. Now I’m ready to appreciate those special moments that make summer summer: the warmth of the sun on your skin, walking barefoot in lush green grass, and ice cream. Hope you’re loving your summer, and thanks for reading.
