It’s the last day of August and our final Slay The Books Looks Fashion 2017 Look 5 Grown Up Version. On Monday, we highlighted the teacher’s pet. who grows up to become a girl boss. This is a great path for the INTJ teacher’s pet because INTJs are natural leaders, even if they don’t push themselves forward to be leaders. A good teacher can see and nurture the INTJ’s quiet leadership potential, which is why INTJs, who are often good students, can also become teacher’s pet.
Know to Grow
As we’ve talked about throughout this identity series, the pressure to find an identity and life purpose is something that I think we push on to young people way too soon. This is especially true if you believe that no one has just one purpose in life, but instead, we all have many. Holding to the idea that we have to find that single thing we were meant to do can cause us to focus on a single life goal as though we are nothing more than that goal— like becoming the CEO of a fortune 500 company, or a community leader, or a famous singer. Yet, even when working toward a larger purpose, we encounter many smaller purposes. Friendships, intimate relationships, jobs (event the unfulfilling ones), helping and encouraging others . . . simply existing, all of these states of being serve purpose in our lives and in the lives of others. The reality is that, while we like to make purpose into some grand goal for ultimate happiness and the measure of a life well lived, purpose most often looks like responsibility. This is a marked difference between what young people are taught in eastern culture, and what we are taught in the western culture.
On the search for passion, remember that your life can have many purposes, many passions, and many identities. To shift and to change through time is to be human, so it only makes sense that the things that give life meaning should also change and shift with time.
Dressing the Girl Boss
Our girl boss may have taken a few detours to get to girl boss status, but those failed business ventures in the past have made her the success she is today. She’s not the new kid on the block. She knows her business, her market, and how she wants this particular purpose to integrate into the rest of her life. What’s more, she takes power dressing to heart. The cropped blazer matched with herringbone skirt are streamlined to state that she’s not playing games. She is a straightforward woman who knows that success isn’t just about purpose, or passion, it’s about heart, soul, and focus.
