Top 5 Always Uttori Obsessions

Going with our theme for the month of July (If you haven’t heard, Always Uttori is celebrating our one year anniversary this month), I think it’s time for me to share the inspirations behind our editorial focus. So, these are my confessions . . . oops, I meant obsessions, or, let’s put it this way, here are the Top 5 Always Uttori Obsessions.

Ok, this one is pretty obvious; after all, this is a fashion blog, right? In part, yes, but while fashion was an inspiration for me to start this blog, it’s not the sole focus of the blog, nor is it a personal all-encompassing obsession. The truth is that fashion is one of the things I struggle with the most when creating content for the blog. Most of the fashion looks on the site are a collaborative effort between me and my INFJ stylist/photographer, which I find endlessly helpful, because fashion can’t be created in a vacuum. The main goal of fashion on the blog is to help other INTJs, introverted intuitives, and anyone else who feels frustrated in developing their own personal fashion style, to see functional fashion. Functional fashion is fashion with a context, and that’s what we try to do with the styles we publish. For example, this month, the theme is patriotic summer style (looking your best at 4th of July picnics and other summer events). Moreover, although we will try to provide more styles that are available to purchase in the future, a primary focus is to encourage INTJs  to get inspired for their own wardrobes. Ultimately, the fashion on the blog is a collaboration, and for the benefit of others, so sometimes, the styles don’t necessarily fit my personal aesthetic. Although I don’t wear things I would never wear, there are times that I put them together in ways that are more dramatic than I might wear in real life. Not to mention, I come from the fairly unfashionable Midwest, so walking around in something other than the Midwest “uniform” means I get a lot of stares, which, as an introvert, can be uncomfortable at times.

My personal style is hard to pin down. I like both edgy and romantic styles with a major dose of quirky. Overall, I guess it’s safe to say my personal style is eclectic. Finally, I am a firm believer that you can’t go wrong with classic styles that are timeless.

The other obsession of the blog? INTJs and MBTI of course! These are the topics that really get me excited to write, and, as the numbers indicate, it what gets you excited too. Sometimes, these articles can be hard to write. I do like the MBTI framework as a way to examine life and problem solve, but I am by no means an expert in personality theory, nor do I have the credentials to speak authoritatively on the topic, so I supplement with lots of research to make sure that the articles are as accurate as possible. The other difficulty is, ironically, staying away from stereotypes. Always Uttori is a blog founded on the premise of stopping the stereotyping of MBTI types, but when speaking to and for a group, there is a tendency to talk from a point of view that may be based on stereotypes. To make sure I’m not making sweeping statements for all INTJs everywhere, I use words like “many” or “may” to leave room for people to disagree. I believe it’s important because while we may all identify as INTJ, we also keep our individuality and leave room to be uniquely INTJ.

I love to eat, and I love food. At least once a month, I share recipes on the blog. It’s great because it gives me an excuse to make some dishes that I normally wouldn’t, or to share my favorite recipes. I am gluten sensitive, so for the most part, my recipes are gluten-free, and sometimes dairy-free. When I’m at home, I’m usually in charge of the dessert making, but more recently, I’ve begun cooking for the family (we have a work-share arrangement). I find that I really enjoy savory cooking, at least more than I thought I would. More than cooking though, eating a dish that someone else made is always better. The food obsession is real. Does anyone else have a happy food dance?

Ice cream is a food, but I am so obsessed with it that it gets its own category. I could eat ice cream all day every day. I like trying different types of prepackaged ice cream, but my favorite flavor is classic vanilla. It’s the base of all flavors, and you can make any other flavor you want with it. Add chocolate syrup and you’ve got chocolate ice cream. On the blog, I’ve shared a recipe for caramel apple ice cream, and also a guide to ice cream in the Twin Cities.

Korean Dramas

The Korean drama obsession is one shared by many. I find myself watching Korean dramas more than American television, which honestly, I’ve never been much of a fan of. I’ve made several K-Drama lists on the blog, and have a few more in the works. I like that they are short and sweet. The actors are great, and if you’re tired of gritty police procedurals, K-Dramas are about human relationships. A caveat, there are often plot holes, but I can live with that.
