INTJ Fall Fashion Updated Prepster

Today’s INTJ fall fashion look is for fans of preppy style.  Previously, as a part of our back-to-school editorials, we talked about archetypes, and the pressure placed on us all to establish an identity, almost from the moment of birth. This is especially true in Western Culture, where it is assumed that once you know who you are, you can begin the more important search of your life, the search for your passion.

For INTJs, the pressure to fit into a box can be especially problematic, as INTJs (an identity in an of itself) tend to be hold certainty at arm’s length as we gather information. For INTJs, putting a stake in the ground of identity requires far more evidence than an affinity for sports, or a facility with words.  These traits may be markers for potential, but they are not identity unless they are embraced as part of a broader set of values.  Identity, both now and in the future, is an evolving concept. It is something that strikes at the heart of the culture wars taking place in the political arena. Whether you identify as an INTJ, or as a different MBTI type, whether you are a follower of enneagram, or Five Factors, connecting to and embracing an identity can deeply impact our choices, values, and even what we chose to think of as our purpose in life. This month, as we share fashion identities: Madame Equestrian, Updated Prepster, and others, we will also explore common identity profiles, possible future identity profiles, and cognition profiles (like MBTI) in a consideration of how cognition style creates identity affinity.

As for today’s fashion, Updated Prepster, I love the idea of taking a typically staid, herringbone blazer and pairing it with 1970’s style culottes and a cropped top. This is 2017 preppy style, a little freer, self-aware, and not overly tied to tradition. Preppy style is most associated with the wealth and privilege of the Northeastern college students, a style that, according to Gentlemen’s Gazette, began around the 1910 when apparel companies like Brooks Brothers opened shop fronts on the campuses of Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. In keeping with the theme of Ivy League, but not, the photos for my updated prepster look were taken at my undergraduate alma mater, University of Minnesota. Ski-U-Mah!
