Fairy-ish: Expressing the INTJ’s Introverted Intuition Aspect

Today’s ASPIRE look represents something that is near and dear to me. As an INTJ and dominate introverted intuition user, expressing my creative inner life can be difficult. Because I am an introvert, and my dominant function is also introverted, I interact with the world through my extroverted thinking function. This can be frustrating at times because, instead of seeing my imaginative side, people instead see the more analytical side of my personality. This isn’t a bad thing, but sometimes I wish it were easier for me to express the more fun-loving and fantastical side of my personality.

One of the reasons that labeling introverted intuitives as uninterested in fashion is so wrong is that, when we allow it to, fashion helps introverted intuitives express our rich inner world. Even so, like most dominate introverted intuition users, I often tamp down the truly imaginative aspects of my cognition because my rational, logical side places a higher value on seeming to fit in with the banality of the crowd, even when I don’t.

This outfit isn’t quite out there in terms of imagination. In fact, I purchased and wore this for a father’s day dinner a few years ago. Even though this dress can easily pass in the everyday, I chose this look to represent an introverted intuition user’s inner world because, in the right setting, it is a reflection of my imagination. Maybe I’ve just escaped from the fairy world (hence fairy-ish). Maybe I am Mab, Queen of the Fairies and ruler over my own domain. Or maybe I’m just an INTJ who wants to hint that there is more to me than meets the eye. The ability to express my inner world through fashion is just one the reasons that, even though I’m an INTJ and a rational, I love fashion.
