Introvert Life: Natural Beauty Gifts for Men and Women

Natural beauty gifts are perfect for DIY around the holidays. They also make excellent gifts, especially if you have a friend or family member with allergies, or who simply prefers a more natural lifestyle. Crafting natural gifts can be less expensive, as many of the ingredients may be things you already have around the house. Even if you have to make the investment to buy the ingredients to create your natural beauty gifts, you can save hundreds of dollars off of the cost of beauty products, which seem to be one category that gets more expensive every  year.

Introvert Life: Natural Beauty Gifts for Her
Lay It on Eyebrow and eyelash growth serum

1 TBSP castor oil

1 TBSP almond oil

5 drops vitamin e oil

In a small bowl, mix the oils together. If you have a leftover mascara brush and mascara tube, you can wash them and store the oil in the cleaned container. I bought my containers from Amazon.  Brush over your brows and the base of eyelashes before bed. Be careful to not get too much on the lashes, as the oil can  get into your eyes and feel strange.

Introvert Life: Natural Beauty Gifts for Him

It always surprises me that there are a number of natural care recipes for women, but very few for men. Sure, there are a lot of guys who aren’t interested in natural self care. Sometimes, it’s hard to get guys interested in taking care of themselves beyond beer and pizza, but that’s not true for every guy. So, if your guy is interested in what goes into his body, as well as what goes on his skin, these recipes will make great gifts.

Kiss Me, You Fool Minty oil pull

½ c coconut oil (I prefer to use fractionated coconut oil as it remains liquid)

1 tsp, or to taste, peppermint extract

Mix oil and peppermint together. Transfer to container and shake well. To use, place a spoonful of the oil in your mouth and swish around for about 15-20 minutes for better mouth health. If you’re unfamiliar with oil pulling,  check this out.

FIngers through your hair growth spray

This hair growth spray is something my mom created for my dad. It actually works pretty well. Both his dad and grandfather were bald by his age. My dad isn’t that into the natural care movement, but he does use this spray. It’s important to note that if your guy has thick, or afro-textured hair, you need a lot more castor oil. The amount listed here is for finely textured hair.

½ c aloe vera juice

½ c filtered water

2 TBSP jojoba oil (hair growth)

1 tsp castor oil (hair growth) (about 3 tablespoons if hair is highly textured)

10 drops of rosemary essential oil (hair growth)

10 drops nettle extract (hair growth)

1 tsp castor oil (hair growth)

10 drops Vitamin E oil (preservative)

5 drops tea tree essential oil (for antiseptic properties)

20 drops lavender essential oil (for scent)

15 drops lemon or bergamot essential oil (for scent)

Mix the ingredients in a bowl. Transfer to a spray bottle. To use, spray on hair at night, or after a shower. Use daily.

Wake up to Your Kisses Coffee lip scrub

2 tbsp unflavored coffee grounds

A few drops vanilla extract

A dash of cinnamon

A dash of nutmeg

Mix coffee grounds with vanilla extract, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Use on chapped or dry lips to exfoliate. Follow up with chapstick.

Lavender lemon body wash

1 cup liquid castile soap

¼ c vegetable glycerin or honey

2 tsp carrier oil of choice

10 drops Vitamin E

5 drops Lavender essential oil

5 drops Lemon essential oils

Mix together in a bowl. Transfer to a squeeze bottle, or old liquid soap bottle. Use in shower.

That Bae Scent Laundry Detergent

This laundry soap recipe was inspired by Jilly, from One Good Thing.

½ bar fels naptha or soap of choice

1 ½  cup Borax

1 cup washing soda

½ cup baking soda

2 cups Oxyclean

10 drops tea tree essential oil

40 drops lavender essential oil, or favorite essential oil

20 drops of lemon essential oil, or favorite essential oil

30 drops of bergamot essential oil, or favorite scent of essential oil

Grate Fels Naptha into a gallon Ziploc bag with oxyclean.  Add in Borax, baking soda, and washing soda.  Gently toss the mixture together. Next add your tea tree and other scented essential oils. If your “bae” has scent allergies, there is no need to add oils.  Add as much of the oil as you need to get the scent you want. Gently toss the oils together with the detergent mixture. Transfer to large container. To use, add 2 tablespoons per load to the wash barrel and wash as usual.

Note: I did test each of these recipes, and even took pictures. However, after watching some DIY videos from a few super crafty types with their cute designs and perfect packaging, I decided to not include the pictures because they’re basically bottles filled with stuff. The feature picture is the coffee lip scrub. In any event, if you’re the crafty type, you can probably do a better job than I can at designing packaging for your naturalista or natural guy.  Finally, none of these natural products are guaranteed to grow your hair, or whatever. I know that the hair oil works for my dad, but it might not work for your guy. So, try it. See what works for you.  Of course, as with any natural product, if you develop a rash or skin condition, immediately stop use and consult your doctor. As a step to prevent any problems, it’s really important to buy high quality essential oils, and to be aware of the effect that these oils can have. Many people use essential oils without understanding that they can causes rashes, and should always be used with a carrier oil (like almond oil, or olive oil, something that dilutes the essential oil).

That’s it for our natural beauty gifts. I’d love to hear about your experiences making and trying these recipes. Happy Holidays, everyone.
