Mission to Munch: Waffles, Biscuits, & Savannah Square Pops

Waffles, Biscuits, and Square Pops, oh my! In this episode of Mission to Munch, we flirt with, and succumb, to sugar overload as we munch on Squawking Goats and classic Chicken and Waffles from Maple Street Biscuit Company, followed by famed popsicles from Savannah Square Pops. It’s Mission to Munch: Waffles, Biscuits, & Savannah Square Pops.

Located on Broughton Street in Savannah Georgia, Maple Street Biscuit Company is a southern-style restaurant chain that serves up foods of the new south, or stick-to-your ribs southern food. After looking at the menu, my mouth was watering. With a variety of takes on the classic biscuits and gravy, and a feature on the Food Network, I was excited to go and check it out. Unfortunately, while the service was excellent, and the wait staff friendly, we didn’t enjoy the food as much as I would have hoped. Still, if you’re looking for a biscuit, and Savannah, Georgia appears to be the biscuit capital of the south, you might give Maple Street Biscuit a try.

Our next stop was Savannah Square Pops, a local Savannah popsicle shop. Savannah Square Pops serves up square-shaped popsicles, all named after the many squares (little areas of green spaces) that Savannah is known for. This shop had been on our list for a while, but it’s out of the way of most Savannah eateries, so it took us a while to make it there. Savannah Square Pops is an example of one of those truisms of food — if you do something well, you don’t have to have a lot of bells and whistles. These simple, yet refined, popsicles were very good. We tried the buttermilk and café au lait flavors. It was a perfect and refreshing end to a fun food day.
