Uttori Fashion: 4 Power Suits That Take You From Office Day to Evening Networking

We’re playing catch up on the blog, so this week we will be publishing looks you may have already seen on our Instagram. Let’s be honest, it’s so much easier to post a picture on Instagram and be done, but I started this blog because I was tired of all the negativity about INTJ fashion, so I’m not ready to give up on writing fashion just yet.  So, I’m happy to get back to Uttori fashion with this post. With summer 2018 just a few days away, we are doing a spring fashion rewind on 4 power suits to take you from office day to evening networking. And why not? A power suit is truly timeless, especially if it can take you from a “go-go-go” day at the office and through evening social activities of networking, or dinner with friends. Girl bosses need their fashion to be as boss girl active as they are.

Once upon a time, office workers were limited to the primary three of the business world: dark blue, black, or gray. Thankfully, times have changed, yet this gray dress is a reminder of just how powerful gray can be when worn as business attire. Moreover, the 1950’s silhouette gives the body long, lean lines, while the exaggerated collar adds that bit of femininity that allows the dress to go from day to night. It’s perfect for the office but stands on its own for a night out.

The color red has always played a defined role in the business world. While we may never know who decided that it should be associated with attributes such as power, strength, and boldness, there is no doubt that it is a color which can be of strategic use in the boardroom. According to psychologists, red can reduce analytical thinking in “opponents”. In any event, research has shown athletes competing against a team wearing red are more likely to lose. So, have an important negotiation? Need an extra bit of fierceness when confronting a client over unpaid invoices? Red might provide the winning edge, though it can also create a more forceful and negative response as well. We have balanced and grounded our power red with black as a neutral to give a sense that everything is under control. The chain detail on the black dress, adds that bit of fashion sense to transition easily from office daywear to evening drinks to cinch that business deal.

Red also increases attractiveness, so it’s a perfect color to wear when meeting with that fellow entrepreneur. The silhouette for this dress skews a bit young, but it’s still chic and disarming sweet. Who knows, with the right amount of charm, afternoon negotiations can turn into dinner and a promise of future negotiation.

The paired neutrals of cream and black offer a no-nonsense appeal. Even so, this final Girl Boss look is all about the ruffled stand-up collar. It is feminine, and yet it possesses a subtle authority that is almost ecclesiastical (religious) in nature. This look is perfect for the girl boss who wishes to ensure that the focus remains on the content of her presentation rather than her fashion.

White and black are two neutrals that always work well together, moreover, each can be used individually to ground other less traditional colors. The key to power dressing that goes from day-to-night is the use of subtle trims and accents. Strong colors such as reds and yellows need to be grounded with neutrals in the same color temperature. No matter what the fashion trend, making a good impression is always good business.
