Red White and Fresh Summer Style Look 4

Red White and Fresh Summer Style Look 4 is full of energy and attitude. As July comes to an end, and the focus shifts to back-to-school, that feeling of summer fun seems a bit more difficult to hold onto. There’s still a month left of summer, but August is often full of last minute tasks that didn’t get done in June or July. I’ve spent the last two weeks of July getting some much needed “blogspiration”. As you may know, this July we’re celebrating our one year anniversary, which means it’s time to plan tons of new content for the coming year.

When I started this blog, I had this fear of running out of ideas. Luckily for me, I seem to have more ideas than the space to share them in a year’s time; even so, I had been lacking the energy and motivation to keep pushing through all the effort it takes to get a blog done. I think the technical term is burnout, lol. The burnout I experienced isn’t because of the blog, but because my first quarter of grad school was no joke. Knowing I would need time to recover, I took few weeks off from posting new content in June. I planned to use those few weeks off to do a bunch of housekeeping tasks in preparation for the coming year, but I was so exhausted I didn’t get much done.

I recently saw a chart on the creative process that posited that creativity is a cycle of action. Momentum is the strong “get it done” energy that pushes you past what might normally be possible; but burnout and recovery are also a part of the creative process. Pushing too hard actually has the result of requiring a longer recovery time. When you are a creative, experiencing that burnout or lack of motivation can be stressful. Often, you may feel guilty, yet, it’s important to remember that momentum can falter. It’s a natural part of the cycle.  As an INTJ with perfectionist qualities, faltering momentum can be frustrating. For me, a deadline for a major project has forced me out of the burnout phase and back into something that feels a bit like momentum – it’s not inspired momentum, but it is something like (Look out for that project publishing on the blog this Saturday!). As for the real momentum powered by inspiration and energy, as I start to work on the topics we’ll be sharing over the remainder of 2017 and beyond, I can’t help but say, “Bring on the new year!”

As always, thank you to all the Always Uttori readers, I wouldn’t be here without you!

Yep! Those who know me well have heard me say “sometimes I just have to stare at the wall for a few days” when I’m finished with a big work project. And I mean and do that literally! Eventually, motivation (and inspiration) will come back, but you can’t force it.

People just don’t seem to realize how calming walls are!! It’s true that there isn’t anything better than some time to yourself after a lot of creative work.
