I went to a Dua Lipa Concert! Thoughts and Concert Vlog

I went to a Dua Lipa Concert! Thoughts and Concert Vlog

You know when you hear a song for the first time and you just know it’s going to be on constant repeat? A few months ago, I was searching for songs for our INTJ Paradoxically Romantic Playlist when I came across Dua Lipa’s song IDGAF. I’ve been obsessed with the song ever since, and could still watch the music video a million more times. When I learned that Dua Lipa would be coming to do a concert in Minneapolis this past June (2018), I knew I had to go. I mean, how often do budding British pop stars do concerts in the U.S. Midwest? Actually, maybe more often than one would expect as it seems that we have eclectic tastes here (at least in Minneapolis), but I digress. On top of the unexpected visit to my neck of the woods, the tickets were only $38. Location and price, it was an opportunity that I couldn’t pass on. Even though I’m a fan of IDGAF, I wouldn’t call myself a major fan of Dua Lipa’s, having only recently discovered her, still I was excited to see her in concert. I just didn’t know what to expect. Maybe you’re familiar with Dua Lipa, but not sure if you’d enjoy going to one of her concerts. Well, fellow introverts, that why I made this I went to a Dua Lipa Concert! Thoughts and Concert Vlog.

Although I didn’t articulate it well in the vlog below, it was a great concert. I really appreciate that Dua Lipa left her big hit songs for the end of show, building up so that when it was time for IDGAF and New Rules, the audience was primed and ready. There was a good amount of showmanship and hyping of the audience. Another thing Dua Lipa did was remix the songs in a way so she repeated the refrains more times than usual, giving the audience the opportunity to belt out the lyrics over and over, right along with her. It’s not something I’ve seen often at concerts, so I really appreciated her catering to the fans.

Surprisingly, I think Dua Lipa is actually better in concert. She had great energy, a great voice, and her music had great beats. Because I had her music stuck in my head since the concert, I was excited to re-listen after seeing her live. It is here I have to admit to a sense of disappointment. Her recorded music just doesn’t live up to the power and energy she had in person. Somehow it seems more muted. But honestly, it’s not a bad problem to have. Dua Lipa is one of those rare artists worth seeing in concert if you get the chance, but for now, you can watch my attempt at a get ready with me and concert vlog. There are lots of clips from the concert, though I didn’t get all of her songs, but here is the list of all the songs she sang. Enjoy!
